The University of Mining and Geology “St. Ivan Rilski” (UMG) is the only Bulgarian university center for engineering education in Earth and mining sciences. The National Scientific Fund of Bulgaria has supported a project (2010- 2012) developed by UMG to integrate disciplines that study natural geological objects in at least four different fields of the Earth Sciences – petrology, ore mineralogy, gemology, and applied geophysics. The main aim of the project is to create a new Center for complex geological and geophysical studies, which could be used, either in scientific research or in training students in UMG, Bulgaria.
