This project integrates scientific disciplines that investigate natural geological objects in four different aspects in the Earth Sciences – Mineralogy, Petrography, Gemology, and Geophysics. The basement for integrated studies is the necessity of solving not traditional tasks. They are related to a complex exploration of natural resources, prospecting of deep-seated mineral and energy resources, increased requirements for protection against geological hazards, interdisciplinary research in some new fields of science such as geoarchaeology, archaeogemology, ecomineralogy, and others.
The main target of this scientific-educational Center for geological and geophysical researches is the modernization of existing and supplement of a new laboratory base. It will improve the educational process and provide suitable conditions for training qualified future specialists and complex fundamental and practical research activities.
Devices supplied through this project will modernize three existing laboratories in the university (petrology, mineral resources, and geophysics). The establishment of a new gemological laboratory is a task also. The project includes a scientific program for its further activity and the realization of research tasks for one ore region in the country. The team working on the project involves students and Ph.D. fellows. The proposed project includes a DataBase including atlases, handbooks, digitalized maps, proper software for processing geological and geophysical data.
Created Center will cover the educational and training needs of UMG “St. Ivan Rislki”. It will be a modern laboratory base for research activities on projects with colleagues from other Bulgarian universities and institutions in geology and geophysics and colleagues from partner institutions from other European countries.
