New synthetic material on the gems market
Author: , Published: 29.04.2016
Swiss gemological laboratory Gemresearch Swisslab reported a new synthetic material, which is marketed as a natural and is sold at very high prices – thousands of US dollars per piece or sometimes per carat. The material is light-colored (beige). It mimicked a naturally weathered product. It is characterized by a specific gravity of 3.53, green phosphorescence when exposed to an intense light source, and patchy blue to green fluorescence in UV light (short- and long-wave).
The material has been studied in the Gemresearch Swisslab laboratory.
